Environmental aspects in the business concept
Environmental aspects are very important within Aerochem. As
a part of the business concept Aerochem has decided to work
actively in order to reduce the potential environmental
consequences of the products.
Unclassified fluids
De-icing fluids, used to remove ice and prevent ice
formation on the wings of aircrafts, are unclassificed fluids
and considered as harmless. The fluids are based on Mono
Propylene Glykol (MPG).
Early adopter
Already in 2000 Aerochem started introducing a more environmentally friendly and
Triasol-free de-icing fluid Type 1. Triasol had both corrosion
protective and anti-flammable properties but after extensive
research and development it was replaced by a substance that
had considerably less environmental drawbacks. Since 2003,
only environmentally friendly fluids have been delivered.
Recycling
Even if de-icing fluid is considered harmless to the
environment the volume used claims that it is motivated to
find ways to recycle the raw material. Today the fluid is
normally collected during the de-icing process and thereafter
sent for destruction. That is why Aerochem has been working actively
to find methods for recycling the collected fluids.
